Tom Ford Private Blend - Santal Blush

Today is so depressing. The whole week has been busy and hard, and rainy to boot (which always makes things more miserable). So far, July has not been its usual sunny self. It's been cold and dim. And today is no exception. This sucks. Anyhow, trying to get up the gumption to at least do up a nice little post on something I've been meaning to showcase ever since I got it, Santal Blush from Tom Ford.

I woke up this morning, made myself a pot of Twinings Earl Grey (the only Earl Grey to drink, as far as I am concerned - so much more soapy-fresh flavour in Twinings'... I digress...) and put on some Santal Blush. It's a very cosy perfume. Oddly, it reminds me of Christmas. It's a perfect fall/winter scent, reminiscent of chimney smoke and candlelight.

Tom Ford Santal BlushI did a review of Plum Japonais when I first got these two, and it's funny, they're both good solid fall/winter fragrances. I described Plum Japonais as a fruitcake on fire, and there's a lot of fire smell in Santal Blush too, in a different way. Woody aromas pervade the scent from start to finish, their tones at once fresh and smouldering in their contrary depths. Softened by sandalwood and creamy musk, this subtle fragrance reveals itself in soft tendrils, gently lingering on clothing, never overt on the skin.

The flash of the cap lends an epic sophistication as it catches the light. The overall packaging is modest and undeniably tasteful. The gleaming liquid, encased in its super simple crystalline flask, nestles very snugly into the gold, pedestal-like box base, the lid sliding down over to rest firmly in place. No detail was overlooked in the production of this fragrance and its packaging scheme. Everything feels solid and precise, made with great care and impeccable attention to detail. As it should be for the price, weighing in at a great big OUCH of 225$. You're welcome, Canadian Economy.

Tom Ford Santal BlushI'm happy about the simplicity in the labels. I'm a fan of the "simplicity is classy" motto. I like that about the Chanel method, and it's been perfected to a tee in this product. I mean, look at the colouring! Clear glass, nude liquid (not gold liquid - it doesn't give the look of overtly extensive colour additives, though obviously there are - it just gives the impression of a soft glow), the blush-coloured box with its texturing and understated labels,  the design of the box and how its two perfectly manufactured parts fit together... crazy about the whole thing! The fragrance, likewise, is straightforward. It basically captures three simple facets - it's fresh like a pine forest, smooth like coconut oil or candle wax, and smoky/incense-y like an old church. As I said, this is a fine fall/winter pick!

Hope you enjoyed the picks and little details (Tom Ford's all about the details)!

Have a great day, and thanks for reading!

A.
